Letter to a Psychiatrist About My Wife, So Crazy it Might as Well Be True

To: help@*******.com
Subject: I need some advice

Dear Counselors,

Until recently my marriage has been more than wonderful. We are a young couple that has only been married about 2 years. I love my wife very much. Lately however, we are going thorough a rough time. My wife has been showing some unusual behavior. It began about 6 months ago.

I should start by telling you that my wife is obsessive compulsive. My wife began to complain about how she would feel uncomfortable even on short car rides. She insisted on rolling the window down, even in the most frigid of weather. It wasn't too much longer that she determined that she just couldn't handle being in the car with another human being. She assured me that it was not just me; but the thought of being confined in such a close space with someone was too much for her to handle. We only have one car so this posed a bit of a problem.

I began riding in the trunk of our 1989 Buick Skylark. This is the most embarrassing thing I have ever had to do but she says it is much needed. You can imagine my embarrassment pulling up to the company softball game and having to wait for my wife to let me out of the trunk. It is even worse when after the game I have to get back into the trunk when we leave.

This is not even the worst part. My wife has cut back on bathing. Now she only showers on the 3rd Sunday and 2nd Tuesday of every even month and the 1st Monday and 4th Friday of every odd month. Can you imagine? She only showers two times a month. She says that it is a spiritual thing. She is trying to become closer to nature.

Please help me. I don't know how much more I can take.

Sincerely,

Brad Fith

Hello Brad,

OCD is a very treatable disorder. I would recommend that you find a professional counselor near your home or office to seek professional treatment. You can find a counselor by doing a search. From counselors.com home page you can click "Find a Counselor" on the left menu. Enter your state and zip code to find counselors near you. You may need to call the counselors to see if they specialize in OCD. I would appreciate it if you would mention that you were referred from our web site.

Good Luck,
Mitch
